Determination of Sectoral Employment Equity targets : Department of Employment and Labour

Rmiblock

The Department of Employment and Labour (DoEL) recently invited a number of Members of the RMI to attend a consultation session held in anticipation of the identification and setting of employment equity targets for the Wholesale and Retail Trade and the Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles Sector. This consultation session took place on 22 February 2021 by means of a digital meeting.

Representatives of the RMI attended this consultation session, as a consequence of which an undertaking was given to the DoEL that the RMI will revert, on behalf of the Industry and its Members, with a submission aimed at addressing the issue, by 26 February 2021.

The RMI will make a submission as undertaken, by 26 February 2021, in aid of establishing a forum where it can engage with the DoEL regarding process to be followed in identifying and adopting these employment equity targets. This process will involve broad consultation by the RMI with its Members, through its Constituent Associations. Once the consultation process is exhausted, the RMI will draft and remit its submissions to the DoEL and provide its Members with a copy thereof.

Members have been requested by the DoEL to also make individual business submissions, however the RMI would request that Members not do this until they have had sight of the RMI’s submission, since it would best be avoided that conflicting submissions are sent to the DoEL.

Any Member that wishes to make an inquiry in this subject regard, can contact the RMI’s Transformation Director, Ms. Nonhlanhla Tshabalala on Noni.Tshabalala@rmi.org.za or telephonically on 083 208 7161.

The RMI will keep its Members advised of progress in this subject regard.
