Update: Determination of Sectoral Employment Equity targets : Department of Employment and Labour (DoEL)

Following up on our correspondence dated 24 February 2021, wherein we advised you that the RMI has received a response from the DoEL acknowledging receipt of the submission and undertaking to revert back to the RMI in due course, in order to expedite the consultation process, we are pleased to inform you that the RMI engaged with the DoEL on 15 March 2021,  and the below points were discussed:

-Exploring the process going forward, in terms of the RMI consulting with members as regards proposed targets

-The disclosure by the DoEL of the sources of stats (representivity); and

-Time frames for the process.

After a lengthy and detailed discussion of the above points, the DoEL has granted the RMI an extension of the submission date to 19 April 2021.

We hereby confirm that the RMI has commenced with a consultative process involving all of the RMI’s Associations, which has appointed two representatives from their respective National Executive Committees, to form a Task Team that with drive this process, in aid of preparing a consolidated submission in respect of achievable and realistic employment equity sector targets. The submission will be shared with Members once it has been finalized.
