The Motor trade industry large sample survey (LSS) is undertaken every three to five years by Stats SA. It enquires about the Motor Trade Industry in South Africa and the results of the survey are used to measure the performance of the economy.
These results are used by the government to develop and monitor policy. The private sector also uses these statistics in analyses of comparative business and industry performance.
This survey covers the wholesale and retail of motor vehicles, maintenance and repairs, sales of new and used parts and accessories, and retail sales of automotive fuel.
The 2022 Motor Trade Industry Large Sample Survey (LSS) covers the financial year ending between 1 July 2021 and 30 June 2022.
The collection of this data is essential for planning and policy formulation however it also assists industry players and government to make better and more informed decisions.
For the RMI specifically this survey generates important statistics for use in our strategic considerations and plans.
