Supa Quick Sponsors Junior Motocross Champion

When 13-year-old MX85 national champion Dirco van der Westhuizen lines up to contest his first race of the new season in the more senior Mini Pro class, he will be aboard a brand new motocross bike with a new sponsor.
Supa Quick, a brand of Bridgestone South Africa Retail, has joined long-time sponsor Bridgestone South Africa in supporting the promising young motocrosser, whose domination of the MX85 class (for riders aged between 8 and 12) on a Bridgestone Yamaha YZ85 has earned him a place in the Portable Shade Honda team on a four-stroke CRF150R.
Van der Westhuizen, who is head boy of Gert Maritz Primary School in Pietermaritzburg, will contest the Mini Pro class (for riders aged between 12 and 15) alongside team-mate and defending champion, 14-year-old Tristan Purdon.
“We have followed Dirco’s phenomenal progress through the junior motocross ranks with great interest,” said Romano Daniels, managing director of Bridgestone South Africa Retail. “Motocross is a thriving branch of motor sport that spans all age groups, from grassroots level through to masters, and to be a champion you need to be an expert in the art of riding a motorcycle in the dirt.
“We are delighted to be able to associate our Supa Quick brand with this dynamic sport and with such an exciting young champion as Dirco. Both epitomise the Supa Quick franchise motto, ‘Leave it to the experts’, Daniels added.
“I’m excited about stepping up to the Pro Mini class and being part of a professional team like Portable Shade Honda,” said Van der Westhuizen, who won 10 out of 12 races on his way to the MX85 championship title. “The sponsorship from Bridgestone and Supa Quick has helped make this possible and I’m grateful for their support.”
The opening round of the 2012 championship is at Sun City on February 11.
